It’s easier than ever to put up your own website. But who should be interested?
If you are a:
Owner of a business,
Prospective business owner (starting a new business),
Are an employee,
Hobbyist,
Or are opinionated about any subject
Then you should have your own website. Let’s start from the top:
Owners of a business: more people are coming online all the time, and therefore you are leaving money on the table if you are not online too.
New or prospective business owners: you should start off right and include a website in your marketing plan from the beginning.
You have a job. There are two different types of sites you should consider.
First, as an employee you should start a personal site in which you demonstrate your expertise. It doesn’t matter what field: accounting, plumbing, remodeling; almost any field would work. A blog is perfect for this kind of site. When you go looking for another job in the future, you can point to your site as proof that you know your stuff.
Secondly, if you work for a firm of any size, you can begin a website that covers something about that company. It might be the history of the company, or how to repair the item sold by the company. It should without saying that this is a personal project, and you work on it in your spare time. However, you will eventually let your supervisor or manager know about the site. This will set you apart from almost everyone else in your level of the company.
Hobbyists: a website is an optimal way of letting the rest of cyberspace know what you are up to.
Social commentator: if you feel strongly for or against some topic, a website can help spread the word far and wide.
